Winner of the national Spirit of HIMSS Award, the PA HIMSS Pennsylvania Healthcare Information Technology Awareness Day Planning Committee, representing the Delaware Valley and Western PA chapters of HIMSS, is looking for a few exceptional healthcare leaders from across the state to join our team and help launch what could be the most important Pennsylvania healthcare IT event of the decade… In this year’s event, we will build upon the successes with of last year with expanded programming and participation towards furthering the same goal: to promote the broader adoption of healthcare information technology to lower costs, reduce medical errors and improve the quality of care.

Below, please find some of the specific volunteer roles & responsibilities available. If you are not already a member of HIMSS, or are a member but would like to be more active and add to your HIMSS credentials, come join us, and help make history! As a HIMSS member, participation will also allow you to earn credits towards advancement to HIMSS Senior Member or Fellow!

The commitment will be from October 2008 through June 2009 with the event targeted for Harrisburg in May. Workgroup chairs are encouraged to attend the kick-off meeting in Harrisburg (October date TBD) and are expected to be an advocate for and attend the event in May. Teams will manage the project remotely via regularly scheduled conference calls for the duration.

Volunteer Roles

Planning Chair: Visible position that works with all the Advocacy workgroup chairs to ensure overall project is on target and serves as liaison to the DV and WPA HIMSS boards.

Logistics Workgroup: This team oversees the overall registration process and logistical arrangements for the event, including conference facilities, food, A/V and other equipment, etc.

Legislative Outreach Workgroup: This team schedules the Advocacy Day meetings with legislators

Policy Workgroup: This team shapes the overall theme, sets the objectives, agenda and policies for the Advocacy event and helps to select and recruit speakers

Communications Workgroup: This team develops the communications plan, key messages, talking points, press releases, press kits, etc. for the overall event.

Sponsorship Workgroup: This team solicits and manages the sponsorship for the overall event
