We are pleased to announce the return of the 3rd annual Northeast US Healthcare Trade Faire & Regional Conference, sponsored by WPHIMSS.
This Fall's big event will take place on Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 at the Four Points by Sheraton Pittsburgh North in Mars, PA, conveniently accessible via I-79 and I-76 (Cranberry Twp. area).
This is WPHIMSS' largest annual membership event and we hope to make this year's event our most successful yet. Planning for our event is underway and this year we expect approximately 200 local healthcare/medical staff professionals to attend from hospitals, health system organizations, and medical clinics based throughout Western PA and bordering regions. Also on hand to network with will be another 100 or so staff persons from the 40 participating exhibitor solution provider companies. Some members of partnering associations will also be on hand to network and mix with onsite.
We are in the process of securing some of our industry’s most knowledgeable speakers on HIT and Consumerism. As we all know, Health Information Technology can transform our health care system. Prepare for consumer-centric and information-rich health care, in which medical information follows the consumer and information tools guide medical decisions.
Mark your calendar now to plan to spend part or all of the event day with us on Wednesday, November 4th at the Four Points by Sheraton Pittsburgh North.

POLICY UPDATE
The HIT Policy Committee's Information Exchange Workgroup held a public hearing on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, on the subject of laboratory data/CLIA.
The HIT Policy Committee will be holding a two-day meeting, October 27 and October 28, focusing on specialists, smaller physician practices, small community hospitals, etc. The Recovery Act requires not just adoption of health information technology (HIT) but also meaningful use of the information to improve care. To demonstrate meaningful use, the Policy Committee has chosen to focus on HIT-enabled quality measures that are both process and outcomes oriented. Most of the initial measures proposed for 2011 focused on primary care providers because of the availability of those measures. This hearing seeks input from various groups that may not be adequately addressed by the initial measures proposed, such as specialists, non-physician practitioners, smaller physician practices, safety net providers, and small community hospitals.
The HIT Standards Committee’s Implementation Workgroup will hold a one-day hearing on October 29, 2009, on the “adoption experience.”
All of the above meetings will be held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, 2500 Calvert Street, NW, Washington, DC.
The agendas and information about these meetings, including how to participate can be found on the ONC website:
